After meeting with Anglian Water this morning, I wanted to share a quick update on the recent water issues in Wittering.

The disruption followed the removal of a nearby water tower. To make that possible, Anglian Water upgraded the pumps – but this caused leaks in an older section of pipe that was already due to be replaced.

That replacement has now been completed, meaning the same problem is very unlikely to happen again – as the last weekend of issues was the last time that section of the pipe was in use.

A number of people have been in touch with me to let me know that their bills are showing a spike in usage on the day(s) without water. Anglian Water have reassured me that they will review everyone’s bills to identify any unusual changes so that these can be fixed. This should correct bills for most people, but once they finish doing this, anyone that thinks they have had a spike that hasn’t been resolved will be able to query it.

Additionally, if anyone was left completely without water for more than 12 hours, a service standard compensation of £30 will be applied. They’re looking to identify who would be entitled to this and should let you know if you are; however I’ve been assured that after they’ve gone through and worked this out – there’ll be a way to tell them if you think you’ve been missed out.

Notifications will go out by text or email, depending on your contact preferences. To clarify – that compensation would only apply to a complete loss of water; low pressure would not necessarily qualify.

Hope this helps to provide some extra detail on what happened and how the effects will be worked through going forwards. As always, if anyone needs any particular support, please do drop me an email at [email protected]
