431 military homes in North West Cambridgeshire set to benefit from the most significant renewal of Armed Forces housing in over half a century.

North West Cambridgeshire has the 10th highest number of military homes of any constituency in the UK.
Service families across North West Cambridgeshire are set to benefit from Labour’s new £9 billion Defence Housing Strategy – a landmark national plan to modernise or refurbish over 40,000 military homes across the country.
The investment represents the largest upgrade to Armed Forces housing in more than 50 years, improving living standards for those who serve and their families.
In North West Cambridgeshire, more than 430 military homes will be upgraded as part of the programme, recognising the area’s long and proud connection to the Armed Forces.
The strategy will see 9 in 10 service family homes across the UK modernised or refurbished, with a new Defence Housing Service created to manage accommodation, improve maintenance standards, and ensure families have a stronger voice.

Earlier this year, the Government brought 36,000 military homes back into public ownership, reversing the 1996 privatisation that left thousands of properties in poor condition and cost taxpayers billions in rent payments.
Savings from that change are now being reinvested directly into improving accommodation for service families.
The new plan also includes a ‘Forces First’ approach to housing, which will prioritise veterans and serving personnel for new homes built on surplus Defence land. This approach will support both military and civilian families in the East of England, while helping meet local housing demand.
A rental support scheme will also help service personnel find good-quality accommodation while upgrades are taking place.
